Tower Crane Training Offered by ITI Through Morrow Equipment

November 10, 2015 – Last week, Industrial Training International, Woodland, Wash., announced it is now offering tower crane training through Morrow Equipment at its international headquarters and training center in Salem, Ore. The partnership allows ITI to offer a training package that includes tower crane management, safety and inspection, technician, and national operator certification training.

 

“The benefit to the industry is to allow greater access to tower crane training,” said Peter Juhren, vice president of operators for Morrow, the exclusive distributor of Liebherr tower cranes in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. “An educated workforce is a safe workforce,” he added.

 

Tower Crane Management Course
The tower crane management program is a two-day course that covers crane applications, project planning, operation and maintenance requirements, and more. Specific subjects covered throughout the course include:

  • Site preparation requirements;
  • Counterweight and ballast requirements;
  • Safety and accident prevention;
  • Electrical power supply and grounding;
  • Loading and transport of crane components;
  • Erection and dismantle procedures
  • Top climbing and crane anchorage
  • Bottom climbing and crane support
  • Rail traveling requirements
  • Automatic overload safety systems;
  • Maintenance, inspection, and record keeping; and
  • Applicable safety standards and regulations.

 

 

Tower Crane Safety and Inspection Course

Over three days, the tower crane safety and inspection course is aimed at those involved in inspection and safety compliance for tower cranes. Course subjects include:

  • Erection and dismantling;
  • Climbing systems;
  • Tower crane drive technology;
  • Overload systems;
  • Limit switches;
  • Bolting requirements;
  • Certification procedures;
  • Load testing;
  • Tower crane communications;
  • Structural inspection;
  • Foundation requirements;
  • Transport;
  • Anchorages and recognizing electrical hazards; and
  • Hands-on field inspections of working tower cranes.

 

Tower Crane Technician Course

Once a student has completed the tower crane safety and inspection course or equivalent training/experience, he or she can take part in the five-day advanced tower crane technician course, which is intended for dedicated service personnel with advanced knowledge of tower crane mechanical and electrical system troubleshooting and repair. The course combines theory and practice using audiovisual presentations with hands-on training utilizing fully functional crane components. Course subjects include:

  • Tower crane classifications;
  • Configuration and applications;
  • Electrical power supply and grounding;
  • Structural bolting installation and inspection;
  • Top-climbing/bottom-climbing procedures review;
  • Climbing support and anchorage;
  • Tower crane drive systems;
  • Counterweights and test weights;
  • Tower crane electrical schematics basics;
  • Basic fault tracing;
  • Crane controls and functions;
  • Work area limitation systems;
  • Safety and accident prevention;
  • General inspection and maintenance; and
  • Applicable safety standards and regulations.

 

Tower Crane Operator – NCCCO Certification

The course provides training to prepare candidates for NCCCO certification examinations. Certification requirements include written examination, practical examination, physical requirements, and a recertification requirement.
