Terex to Host Infrastructure Summit Next Month

February 12, 2009 – Westport, Conn.-based Terex Corporation and Iona College will host their second national infrastructure summit on March 4, 2009, in Washington, D.C., at the J.W. Marriott. This year's summit—Rebuilding America's Infrastructure for Global Competitiveness—will focus on finding long-term answers to the state of the nation’s infrastructure and advancing the growing national effort to rebuild and rethink bridges, highways, waterways, and other basic infrastructure across the country.

Current and former policymakers including Congressman Earl Blumenauer and the Hon. Federico Pena, former U.S. Secretary of both Energy and Transportation, will participate as expert speakers alongside academic experts and business leaders from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, AFL-CIO, American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Road Transportation Builders Association, among others.

Conference attendees, participants and expert panelists will share their expertise to help shape the ongoing national dialogue, and discuss long-term infrastructure solutions beyond the current stimulus package now awaiting conference committee action on Capitol Hill.

"President Obama and Congress have a daunting task in front of them—to develop a comprehensive infrastructure policy,” said Brother James Liguori, CFC, president of Iona College. “It must be a policy that can lead this country into a new era and sustain our way of living into the future."

Investing time and money into physical infrastructure and building a strong foundation that will enable the United States to compete in the global marketplace is not only the focus of Rebuilding America's Infrastructure for Global Competitiveness, it is increasingly the focus of state and local governments and national policy makers.

"This year's summit could not come at a better time and its focus could not be more significant to the future of our economy," said Ronald DeFeo, chairman and CEO of Terex Corporation. "The president has called for the creation of a comprehensive national infrastructure strategy and our growing list of respected experts is ready to contribute. Now is the time to plan for the future, and we look forward to doing our part."

While not a final list, confirmed speakers include:

  • Congressman Earl Blumenauer – U.S. Representative House of Representatives (D-OR)
  • Mort Downey – Chairman of the Board, PB Consult Inc.& former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation
