Maryland Makes Statewide Permit Policy Changes
July 19, 2016 - SC&RA reports that the Maryland State Highway Administration has announced a statewide expansion of eligibility to its hours of operation. The expansion now allows loads, up to and including those that weigh 150,000 lbs. and measure 12 ft. wide, 90 ft. long, and 14‘6” high, to move Monday, from 12:01 a.m. through Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
These changes reflect an increase in permitted weight allowance from 120,000 to 150,000 lbs., and an increase in length from 80 to 90 ft. Additionally, all permits within the thresholds listed above will be “auto issued” by Maryland One, the state’s recently-enhanced automated permit system.
“This will significantly impact allowable travel time in Maryland, reduce many parking issues, and lead to more efficiencies for our industry, our drivers, and our customers,” said Paul Ross, vice president of Keen Transport and SC&RA permit policy committee chair, instrumental in bringing about these, and other, recent changes in Maryland, according to SC&RA.
This modification is effective immediately. Please check MSHA restrictions listing at www.sha.state.md.us for roadways that are not eligible for the expanded weight or size.
